This project in South Devon is currently in progress and is the redevelopment of a detached family home and garage. The brief has been to enhance and future proof the existing house.
Having worked through a variety of form options for both the house and garage, the favoured design has a wrapping ground floor extension that becomes a balcony for two front facing bedrooms. The loft is being converted into a master suite, capitalising on breathtaking views towards the sea.
The garage allows the family space for their hobbies and for exercise, across two storeys. It also holds the solar panels for the whole house. Along with the solar panels, an air source heat pump system will future proof the house by cutting its reliance on gas.
The garden is home to a number of large protected trees, around which new perennial borders are proposed. Due to a steep slope from the driveway up to the front door, stepped planting is proposed, interspersed with steps, seating and an outdoor kitchen.
